A core component of many programs is the ability for youth to build positive, dynamic relationships with adult mentors. In high quality programs, students seek out positive interactions with staff members. As an example, students may show staff something they’ve produced (essay, drawing) during an activity. Furthermore, students should listen attentively to staff and cooperate with staff requests. These positive interactions between staff and students set the stage for programs to meet academic, socio-emotional, and program quality goals.
